Extra plumbing
I took a little time to mess around with the biovore model a bit, though I've got one or two things that need touching up. I figured I'd try and add a bit onto the cannon itself, so I tried emulating the fleshy tubes that were sculpted onto it with some wire of my own. I also tacked two horns on the head - it's not quite the resculpting of the head I was considering, but I don't feel confident enough in my sculpting to try, honestly.
Gotta sculpt in a bit of a socket around those horns so they blend in, but really I don't think it's all that bad. I'm considering using water effects to add a bit of slime oozing out the tip of the cannon's muzzle, like it just fired, but I think that sort of thing goes on post-paint anyway, so unless some other brilliant ideas strike me soon I'll be simply cleaning this up and priming soon.

Santa Claus is coming!
This is a project for the Miniature Summer Secret Santa over at the Penny-Arcade forums that I will be giving as a gift. For those of you who don't know, Secret Santas are pretty simple. Everyone is assigned a name, and you get a gift for the person whose name you drew. They do not know the identity of their gifter until the gift is given, making it a fun surprise for everyone involved. I was fortunate enough to pull my good friend Quetzi, who plays Tyranids and Orks.
I've had the chance to play against Quetzi, and I know he has a penchant for playing with biovores, though he doesn't actually have the models to represent them. I thought I might fix that, so I got to work on a biovore and some spore mines to give him as his gift.
Unfortunately, I seem to have creativity problems when it comes to Tyranids. After studying the model top and bottom, I couldn't really figure out what I wanted to do with it, so I went ahead and assembled it, pinning the limbs on as per my usual habit with metal models.
What could turn this biovore from stock into awesome? I hear people complaining about the heads on these things all the time, so I could probably do a head swap for something a bit more nid-looking, but I don't have anything like that handy or available to do so. All I can really see that needs to be done is greenstuffing around the joint sockets to properly clean it up, but I would love to surprise my friend with a special model. Perhaps I will have to paint it extra-well just to impress Quetzi a bit.
