Concept and planning
I saw this a few days ago and I've been thinking of picking it up and filing down the rocky/spiky bits on the shoulders and covering it with armor.
It seems a bit feral-boss-ish, but I'm thinking it's a good conversion idea to use as a base. The only downside is that it can't easily be made to carry 40k weapons or even a choppa unless I strapped that across the back. Maybe a wrist-mounted chaingun or something...
I sketched the drawing below out real quick, but as my wacom tablet is busted I had to use a mouse, which is why the sketch is a bit crappy. Part of the appeal of the idea to me is to have a ridiculously, ridiculously meaty boss. Muscles and the huge hands are actually a draw for me - even though the hands lack a digit, I don't really see that as too much of an obstacle because before today I never really even noticed how many fingers Orks have.
I have a hunch that with a bit of work I may be able to bend the fingers on the open hands inward to properly hold an enormous and massive choppa, and maybe mount a belt-fed or clip-fed big shoota on the wrist of the other hand that possibly had an ammo feed going to the back. I honestly didn't think I'd need to file the gut area down all that much - it doesn't look too bulgey from what I can see, though it might be good to sculpt a bit of abs/musculature over the upper stomach area to blend it in better.
The face'd have to be sculpted, which I imagine would be the hardest part of this conversion, but I think I'm up to it. My greenstuff-fu is weak, but it's a small enough thing that I think I could manage it - and if I screwed the face up too badly with the sculpting, I could always remove it and/or put bioniks on. The rest would be simple plastic armoring, I think.
Those rock-spikes would obviously have to go.
I kind've like the idea of some sort of radioactivity - I could probably blame the 4 fingers on that, as well as his enormous size. And since he's so big, he's thumped his way up the ork food chain till he became a boss. I'm working on figuring out how/where to get my hands on this model, as it doesn't look cheap at all. I can't draw a bionic hand in proper perspective to save my life, but I do like the general idea. If I were to put talons or spikes or something pointy at the end of each finger (like on this mini )I think it wouldn't look all that bad, and it'd let me put the choppa in the other hand.
