Lootin’ all my paint
Nothing too tremendously new, I'm just taking some time and getting some color on these Lootas.
They're not entirely done, but go nuts with the critique - I want to hear what needs improving. For my own part, I'm not entirely thrilled with the way the orange cabling looks just yet, and it's hard to do a ton with the big hunks of metal that the deffguns present. I also really want to redo the horn and bone details on them, since they look shoddy.
Input's welcome, in any case, while I work on getting the other lootas at least this far before I get into the minutiae.

Splash of color
A relatively small update is in order here. I've been working on getting the lootas painted up for my game on August 15, and I'm making decent, if slow, headway. I figured that since I had twenty lootas, I'd often end up running them in squads of tens, so I went ahead and did ten in purple and ten in blue shirts to keep them somewhat distinct. The colors are still close enough that they can be mixed together into a unit of 15, though. I tried to paint them reasonably bright and vibrant colors for contrast, because most of the ork would end up getting concealed by the darker metal looted gun harness.
As it stands, shirts and faces are done. Helmets, straps, and armor need to be painted yet, and the pants have been base coated but not shaded or highlighted. I hope to have the rest of these details done and painted by tonight, the guns painted by tomorrow, and them done by the end of the week.

Four more reinforcements
I managed to pick up 4 more lootas in a trade and I've spent the past few hours putting them together. Scraping the mold lines off these things takes an unreasonably long amount of time! Now that I have 20, I'll probably be throwing down two ten-man squads where points permits - it should be fun in Apocalypse, at least.
Anyway, I figured I'd throw these up here.
I am still adding bits and pieces to all of the boyz in the mob. I really want to get a couple tau shoulderpads and the likes to put on a couple of the boyz but it doesn't look like the tau kits come with any extras so I'm having trouble coming up with someone who has spares.

Dakka tuneup!
I went ahead and snapped some closer individual shots of a few random lootas from the mob so you guys could get an idea of what I've been doing. I've been upgunning their deffguns a little bit, which isn't really a bad starting point, and trying to vary a few boyz where I can. I'm thinking I might hack a necron gun up and stick it on one of them for good measure. I figure the more barrels, the better, right? Hedge my bets and see if it doesn't get me a higher D3 roll!
But seriously, they're coming along okay. I've decided, actually, not to paint them this week. They'll need more work next weekend to close some seams up with putty and add extra wires and more guns and barrels and looty bits. I think instead I'll probably go ahead and give painting my 'Ard boyz a try this week.

Fresh out of the box
Now that I have bunches of the new models, I figured I'd start putting squads together. I was originally aiming for a 15-ork strong squad of Lootas, but I ended up with 16 from the boxes I got, so I'm starting to consider maybe two 10-man squads instead.
In any case, I've been building this squad with the intention of painting them up, so I've broken the entire unit down into three pieces per loota - the 'gun rig', the boy himself, and the bases. I'm going to prime and paint these up during the next few weekdays, and then glue it all together.
I'm finding it considerably difficult to actually vary the lootas up in any appreciable way. The harnesses tend to fit together in only certain ways. I did the best I could to tack extra guns and barrels and the likes on the gun harnesses, but I don't think I'm done yet. I did a little work on the lootas themselves - some imperial helmets, that sort of thing - but I'll be adding more to them, as well; bolters, grenades, that sort of thing. I'll probably cut some rod up for their bases to act as spent ammo shells, as well.
Here's how they look put (read: loosely fitted) together!
Nothing too outrageous, really, just working off the standard Loota sprue and a couple extra bitz I have lying around. I'm saving the 'rocket' looking bits for my Killer Kans later down the road, and I'm trying to keep some of their heads for other projects I have in mind - namely, proper Flash Gitz. Those won't come till later, though.
I apparently have one more loota enroute to me in the mail currently, so I'm mulling over the possibility of building three more to have a full 20 for my 10-man squads. We'll see how that goes - right now, my main objective is to finish these ones off and get them primed so I can paint them over the next week.
