Hooray! Closure!
My scratch-wagon is finally done!
If you like it, please vote for it on CoolMiniOrNot! I am happy to say that it is presently the highest-rated Battlewagon on that site, which does me quite proud.
POSTSCRIPT NOTE: This wagon was sold via e-bay during the fall of 2008.

Paint like you mean it!
Even more paint on this baby.
I'm going to go ahead and call this 90% done, pending any tweaks that I need to fix painting or any small details that I've missed. I tried to take some detail shots. Since I've been asked about the grot-on-a-spear, I thought I'd explain where it came from. I bought a Squig Herder blister and it came with a grot playing the bagpipes and a grot holding another grot tied to a spear - the grot holding the spear is now the spore mine poker, and the speared grot is decorating the back (I cut it out of the holder's hands).
One thing that looks really terrible in the photos is the 'evil suns' emblem on the front and back. I need to correct that with a bit of inking, I think. I also plan on airbrushing the bottom with a bit of an earthtone so it gets the kicked-up-dirt appearance, but the airbrush won't be available to me until Friday.
I tried sizing down the pictures a bit since they are in abundance in order to keep the loading time semi-reasonable.

Halfway to the finished wagon
Lots of pictures ahoy!
I tried to go with rusted metal. I think it's come out mostly good so far. I need to learn how to do proper checks, though. No matter how much I try, my hand refuses to cooperate, and I really don't like decals.
I'm starting to become more satisfied with how this is turning out, though. I'd say it's only about 50% done yet.

Paintin’ the wagon details
I haven't got a clue as to why I'm having such a ridiculously hard time painting this vehicle, but nothing I do comes out right. I tried to do a weathered look on the front, and now it just looks like a mess.. and the stupid spore mine's main body looks terrible, no matter what color I make it. Disregard it's orangy-ness at the moment, as I do still intend for it to be a bone white..
Still, I'm really dissapointed. The paintjob I'm pulling out on this is not doing any favors to the model.

Red wagonz go fasta!
Okay. Some shots of the wagon at the moment. I airbrushed some nice red onto it, hopefully not too thick, and then proceeded to start picking out the details that I didn't want to be red in chaos black. I'm obviously not done, and it's just a rough job so far, but it's just to prove that I'm still alive. Some things I don't plan on having red, but still think I'm going to leave it red because it'd be the easiest color to work from - for example, the spore mine on the front, which I imagine to have a bony white on the spherical part, purple tentacles, and green gore. The tentacles will most likely be left red as I imagine painting purple over red requires fewer coats than over black.
That said, I'm still not done, and the other side of the vehicle's had minimal details picked out so far, which is why it's unphotographed. I do promise it'll look a lot nicer once it's done. The red is almost a little too vibrant for me, but I think after a bit of weathering, rusting, and general abuse it'll tone down nicely to what I'm looking for.
I'm thinking of doing the panels in a metallic color, but not decided yet.

Zzzap! BBQ ‘Umie!
I figured I'd post some pictures of the turret up so far. I'm not nearly done with it, but there's some parts on it that just bother me and I don't know what to do with it.
The gun itself is just a mess of boltgun, but I'm not sure which details to pick out in which colors or how to go about making it look better. I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the front guard, either.. the yellow 'teeth' design doesn't look quite right. I tried to erode the edges with a bit of tin bitz so they'd stand out better, but it looks a little messy. The ork's skin needs a lot of highlighting and shading, which I should be able to handle without much trouble... the back of the front guard looks bland as just a flat red, but I'm not sure how to go about detailing it or what to paint on it.
It's got a ways to go yet, and it's just one small piece of the wagon, but I'm working on this by itself for now until I feel good enough to start messing around seriously with my new airbrush on the wagon.

Paintin’ da Shootaz
I am just starting on the small stuff, as it's been a really long time since I've touched a paintbrush. I'm worried my paint on these things is going to be a little too bland.

Back in Black
I think I'm just going to start painting. I have some other ideas for the vehicle, but I'll save them for when I scratchbuild my army's trukks and buggies.
Aaand primed. The first thing that's going to get painted is the turret and removable bits, since they're the easiest. I'm thinking of painting the wagon red with checkered strips covering it since it's supposed to be a Kult of Speed wagon, and the red ones do go fasta after all.
Sorry about the crappy lighting in some of these pictures, but I do live in a basement apartment (a.k.a. 'dungeon') and I don't want to take it outside for photographs right now. I don't have any nice flat brushes, mostly just detail brushes, so I'm going to work on the turret and bolt-ons until I'll be able to buy the brushes I need for the wagon.

Rivets! Needs more rivets!
Riveted a lot of stuff up and worked on adding a few extra details! I need to make another turret for the back wooden box. It's got a magnet hooked up already. For normal game purposes, though, I think I'm going to remove the bolt-ons and just use the wooden areas as extra room for the boyz on top.

Grots, grots, everywhere!
I hung a grot off the side and disguised the LED switch as a valve (or tried). I just don't have any clear-cut ideas for the back here, but you can't go wrong with a grot. It'll get a rivet job tomorrow. I added a bucket by the grot upfront just because I can and added some armor plating after.
