The Warforge Miniature Modelling and Conversion

Don’t judge me!

Got myself a pair of legs and other bits from a Throne of Judgement. What do you guys think? I'm trying to make the dread look a bit dynamic.

P.S. Holy jesus putting the legs together for this is such a pain. Nothing lines up right, and I had to pin absolutely everything together. Those shin pads still refuse to stay on.

Can’t leave well enough alone

I need help. I can't think of what to do to these godforsaken dreadnoughts to make them more unique. The curse with forgeworld stuff is that everything else looks so plain alongside it!

I can't come up with any good ideas for decking out the arms or legs of this thing. I did a little bit to the engine in the back, and added a few bare details to each arm, but it's not really enough. The thing also stands at a slight tilt, which is unintentional, and I'm not sure if I should leave it or try bending the feet into a different position. I originally set them up so it'd stand on that base without a problem, but hell if I know if I'm even keeping the base.

I'm thinking of making a sword like what the inquisitor models carry and jamming it directly into the top of the dreadnought - something like this:

dhdtest3

But even then, that doesn't help me with my arm and leg problem. I don't even know if I want to put the smokelaunchers on there either. I have an 'altar' sort of thing, a pedestal with candles atop, that I'm thinking of putting on the other torso for the time being.

Inquisitorial stuff is so hard. Orks are easy to convert. Just smack armor plating and rivets on and it looks fine. Stupid human things need clean lines and sensible decoration.

In short: I need ideas and inspiration! Please bear in mind I can't sculpt worth a damn.

Sense of dread

I started assembling my two Daemonhunters Dreadnoughts... they're fully magnetized, so I can swap parts out easily and still be able to paint them - also, so they can rotate easily at the torso to aim at things.

Still, I feel dirty. My general nature is not to leave things as they are, but there's no converting room on the Forgeworld Torsos - at least, nothing that my fiddling would improve upon. I need to get the legs and arms malleus'd out, but I can't think of what would be effective or look good.

I'm probably going to give both dreadnoughts lascannon/missile loadout, because they're badly needed for tankbusting in a Daemonhunters army... But I am still short a Lascannon arm and a Missile Launcher arm. BWbits.com has them, but it's like 15 dollars for two small bitz which is retarded, so if anyone has a lascannon or missile arm they want to get rid of, let me know.

Anyway, I'm just not sure what to do with these to make them more unique, you know what I mean? I was messing around with possible head swaps on the helmeted one, but it looks a bit.. weird. Photoshopped as a test:

I don't know if I'm in love with those. I might be trying too hard to change them for the sake of changing them.

Stop! Hammertime!

I'll probably add a purity seal or two to the hammer, as I don't see much room for improvement on it without actually remaking the head, which I don't feel interested in doing right now. I've pinned the hand on for the moment, but it's not attached so I can easily paint everything, which I think I'm going to do fairly soon to try out this new gray primer I have.

Anything else I should add to this, aside from a few finishing details? At the moment, I think this model can pretty much represent every piece of potential wargear in the daemonhunters armory. I've gotta make his base still.

Testing the armory

I went for Coteaz's body, as the badassness of his armor finally won me over. I dremeled out his head, and used Marneus Calgar's head instead - I was originally considering using one of the medieval-style marine helmeted heads, but I thought that might generate a bit of confusion when he was near Grey Knights, and felt it best to give him a face with some personality. The gun is actually great - I didn't have to do any real converting to it, and it fit like a glove. It was made for some Dark Angels model, and it's a combiweapon of bolter and plasma gun. However, I figure that it's ambiguous and unique-looking enough that I can realistically pass it off as whatever ranged weapon I want - namely, a Psycannon, which I like to give my inquisitor lord for his shooty retinue.

I have a nice collection of possible weapons to use on him that I'm deciding between...

inquis2

As he's an inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, a hammer would make the most sense, but it'd be the stock hammer that came with Cortez and I don't know how I feel about that. The hammer's advantages, however, is that I would be able to use it to represent a few separate weapons - a normal CCW, a Daemonhammer, or a Thunder Hammer, for example, depending on what I decided upon that game for WYSIWYG rules. I could always just give him a different gun - say, plasma - in that hand, I guess.

Trukkboy Nob is all done!

I'm done with the Nob for now. He's got the shoota/skorcha across his back. I like the way he looks. He's also got the grot shackled around the ankle to him to keep the git from runnin off mid-fight.

And a completed mob shot, 'for the road', as it were.

Making headway on da Nob

Incoming lots of pictures. I've painted and mounted the Nob's torso:

Nob base: Now with 100% more color!

I painted the Nob's base to see how it'd come out.. doesn't look bad. I'm going to get to painting his torso soon, I think.

Urban display base

Started making a base for the Nob. Sidewalk, curb, and asphault with a bit of gravel, flock (eventually), and a parchment blowing around. The gray shaded areas are where the nob and grot stand.

Roll call

I thought the former skintone was a little bit too dark, so I went ahead and made them all a lighter olive color that I think works better - now I'll be able to paint the nob darker colors to indicate 'ardness. I figured I'd take a few group shots in the mean time.
