Cleanup in aisle troll
You'll notice in full-body picture I have the torso held with a gap in the abdomen area - this is intentional. I'm going to make him stand a bit more upright, I think, both to make him bigger and to try and work around wonky troll anatomy - he has a pretty big bulge in the middle of his back where the hunch is that looks a bit silly. I'll probably sculpt that loin cloth up to hang a bit higher, in addition to putting stomach armor on, but all that comes later. For now, I have spent the past few hours carefully trying to dremel off those godforsaken spikes from his body. It's super-tedious, but I think it's coming out alright - I honestly didn't wreck the musculature as much as I was expecting. I've got some new putty, called Tamiya Epoxy Smooth, that I'm going to go over the skin with at a later date to properly resurface it, but I think I'm doing decent so far. Both legs have also had their spikes removed.
The choppa's not a bad fit for size, considering I made the axe before I had the boss. I think I'll make a new one, though, a bit meaner-looking, so I can stick this one in a body.
I've been tentatively thinking of names for this dude. I've only thought of one that I would consider, which is 'Big Boss Mungus', and that's kind've weak. I'm well open to suggestions, though.

Package attack
So, I got today's mail.
Looks like a dire troll mauler hitchhiked his way in the USPS Trukks all the way over from thewarstore. I suppose I'm going to have to make him a warboss now, eh?
I'm going out to buy proper dremel bits to grind away at those spikes later today, but I figured I'd practice some of my greenstuffing skills (or lack thereof) by making a relatively simple choppa. It's not really suited to being held by him, as he's so much bigger than I initially eyeballed - from elbow to base of the fingers is the size of a single boy!

Thinking it through
Just messing with ideas for the back. I'm not quite sure I know how this'd work. Perhaps I'd need to rig up some sort of device on his back to both power the armored fist and feed ammunition into the big shoota. A grot riding it's never bad, either.
I was actually thinking buggy tire guards would almost be an appropriate size shoulder pad for something like this, assuming I'm guesstimating at his approximate size accurately. I'll spend some time today working on this idea a bit more before I committ to it. I'd have to re-sculpt a lot of the musculature to hide where I ground down those body spikes, which may be an enormous pain.

Concept and planning
I saw this a few days ago and I've been thinking of picking it up and filing down the rocky/spiky bits on the shoulders and covering it with armor.
It seems a bit feral-boss-ish, but I'm thinking it's a good conversion idea to use as a base. The only downside is that it can't easily be made to carry 40k weapons or even a choppa unless I strapped that across the back. Maybe a wrist-mounted chaingun or something...
I sketched the drawing below out real quick, but as my wacom tablet is busted I had to use a mouse, which is why the sketch is a bit crappy. Part of the appeal of the idea to me is to have a ridiculously, ridiculously meaty boss. Muscles and the huge hands are actually a draw for me - even though the hands lack a digit, I don't really see that as too much of an obstacle because before today I never really even noticed how many fingers Orks have.
I have a hunch that with a bit of work I may be able to bend the fingers on the open hands inward to properly hold an enormous and massive choppa, and maybe mount a belt-fed or clip-fed big shoota on the wrist of the other hand that possibly had an ammo feed going to the back. I honestly didn't think I'd need to file the gut area down all that much - it doesn't look too bulgey from what I can see, though it might be good to sculpt a bit of abs/musculature over the upper stomach area to blend it in better.
The face'd have to be sculpted, which I imagine would be the hardest part of this conversion, but I think I'm up to it. My greenstuff-fu is weak, but it's a small enough thing that I think I could manage it - and if I screwed the face up too badly with the sculpting, I could always remove it and/or put bioniks on. The rest would be simple plastic armoring, I think.
Those rock-spikes would obviously have to go.
I kind've like the idea of some sort of radioactivity - I could probably blame the 4 fingers on that, as well as his enormous size. And since he's so big, he's thumped his way up the ork food chain till he became a boss. I'm working on figuring out how/where to get my hands on this model, as it doesn't look cheap at all. I can't draw a bionic hand in proper perspective to save my life, but I do like the general idea. If I were to put talons or spikes or something pointy at the end of each finger (like on this mini )I think it wouldn't look all that bad, and it'd let me put the choppa in the other hand.

Hooray! Closure!
My scratch-wagon is finally done!
If you like it, please vote for it on CoolMiniOrNot! I am happy to say that it is presently the highest-rated Battlewagon on that site, which does me quite proud.
POSTSCRIPT NOTE: This wagon was sold via e-bay during the fall of 2008.

Paint like you mean it!
Even more paint on this baby.
I'm going to go ahead and call this 90% done, pending any tweaks that I need to fix painting or any small details that I've missed. I tried to take some detail shots. Since I've been asked about the grot-on-a-spear, I thought I'd explain where it came from. I bought a Squig Herder blister and it came with a grot playing the bagpipes and a grot holding another grot tied to a spear - the grot holding the spear is now the spore mine poker, and the speared grot is decorating the back (I cut it out of the holder's hands).
One thing that looks really terrible in the photos is the 'evil suns' emblem on the front and back. I need to correct that with a bit of inking, I think. I also plan on airbrushing the bottom with a bit of an earthtone so it gets the kicked-up-dirt appearance, but the airbrush won't be available to me until Friday.
I tried sizing down the pictures a bit since they are in abundance in order to keep the loading time semi-reasonable.

Halfway to the finished wagon
Lots of pictures ahoy!
I tried to go with rusted metal. I think it's come out mostly good so far. I need to learn how to do proper checks, though. No matter how much I try, my hand refuses to cooperate, and I really don't like decals.
I'm starting to become more satisfied with how this is turning out, though. I'd say it's only about 50% done yet.

Paintin’ the wagon details
I haven't got a clue as to why I'm having such a ridiculously hard time painting this vehicle, but nothing I do comes out right. I tried to do a weathered look on the front, and now it just looks like a mess.. and the stupid spore mine's main body looks terrible, no matter what color I make it. Disregard it's orangy-ness at the moment, as I do still intend for it to be a bone white..
Still, I'm really dissapointed. The paintjob I'm pulling out on this is not doing any favors to the model.

Red wagonz go fasta!
Okay. Some shots of the wagon at the moment. I airbrushed some nice red onto it, hopefully not too thick, and then proceeded to start picking out the details that I didn't want to be red in chaos black. I'm obviously not done, and it's just a rough job so far, but it's just to prove that I'm still alive. Some things I don't plan on having red, but still think I'm going to leave it red because it'd be the easiest color to work from - for example, the spore mine on the front, which I imagine to have a bony white on the spherical part, purple tentacles, and green gore. The tentacles will most likely be left red as I imagine painting purple over red requires fewer coats than over black.
That said, I'm still not done, and the other side of the vehicle's had minimal details picked out so far, which is why it's unphotographed. I do promise it'll look a lot nicer once it's done. The red is almost a little too vibrant for me, but I think after a bit of weathering, rusting, and general abuse it'll tone down nicely to what I'm looking for.
I'm thinking of doing the panels in a metallic color, but not decided yet.

Zzzap! BBQ ‘Umie!
I figured I'd post some pictures of the turret up so far. I'm not nearly done with it, but there's some parts on it that just bother me and I don't know what to do with it.
The gun itself is just a mess of boltgun, but I'm not sure which details to pick out in which colors or how to go about making it look better. I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the front guard, either.. the yellow 'teeth' design doesn't look quite right. I tried to erode the edges with a bit of tin bitz so they'd stand out better, but it looks a little messy. The ork's skin needs a lot of highlighting and shading, which I should be able to handle without much trouble... the back of the front guard looks bland as just a flat red, but I'm not sure how to go about detailing it or what to paint on it.
It's got a ways to go yet, and it's just one small piece of the wagon, but I'm working on this by itself for now until I feel good enough to start messing around seriously with my new airbrush on the wagon.
